Classical definition: Benefics in Kendras produce Parvata Yoga, when Yuvati Bhava and Randhra Bhava are vacant or occupied by benefics only. In modern terms: At least one benefic is in a kendra (the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house). The 7th house and the 8th house each hold no malefic: each is empty or holds only benefics. The text says "benefic planets" in kendras. Here it means at least one benefic, because all of them cannot be in kendras if a benefic may stand in the 7th or 8th. Benefics are Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the waxing Moon. Malefics are the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Houses are counted from the rising sign (Lagna): the 1st house is the rising sign itself. This is the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra form as the R. Santhanam translation gives it (Yuvati is the 7th house, Randhra the 8th). Jataka Parijata names the 6th and 8th houses; that form is the rule Parvata Yoga on this page. Source: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Chapter 36, verses 7-8.
