Classical definition: If all the benefics occupy Upachaya houses, whether reckoned from the Lagna or from the Moon, the Yoga is called Vasumat (Vasumati). In modern terms: Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are all in the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th house. The houses are counted either from the rising sign or from the Moon's sign: one of the two counts is enough. The planets need not be in the same house. Houses are counted from the rising sign (Lagna): the 1st house is the rising sign itself. Source: Phaladeepika, Adhyaya 6, sloka 19-20 (V. Subrahmanya Sastri's translation).
