Classical definition: Counted from the rashi occupied by the lord of Yuvati Bhava, benefics occupy the 4th, 9th and 8th. In modern terms: Find the 7th lord: the planet that rules that house. Treat the sign where it sits as house 1 and count on from there. There is a benefic in the 4th, a benefic in the 9th and a benefic in the 8th counted from that sign. Benefics are Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the waxing Moon. Malefics are the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.
